It’s been quite some time, and I couldn’t tell you how long, but I haven’t talked to my dad in a while. And since we’ve reached Memorial Day weekend, with Father’s Day next on the major holiday list, I look forward to visiting that very significant individual.

The members of my family, I’m referring to the four people I grew up with, they’re my favorite human beings. They always will be.

My sisters, well I’ve seen them lately. We had recently enjoyed a short California vacation. I had a great time with them, I had missed their free flowing laughter and their upbeat spirit. It’s impossible to ignore that well intentioned humor.

Last week, I had a long visit with mom. We talked about friends and family. She also gave me a tour of this year’s garden. There’s a ton of strawberries in that northwestern corner of my parent’s lot.

Yet, dad? Well, it’s been a long time. That being said, I’ve been thinking about him lately. I believe I have the perfect Father’s Day present for him…that’s if I’m willing to spend the cash. I think I should. The man’s hard work certainly has earned my respect and appreciation. I’m not sure if he realizes that.

So, when asked who I look forward to talking to, it has to be a Vietnam War era veteran. That guy, even if we haven’t seen eye to eye, has always been my favorite man on this planet.
