How do you practice self-care?

I firmly believe in self care, and I also realize one can tend to oneself in many different ways. Of course, when thinking of an individual’s welfare, there are various aspects of a person’s state of being, those being physical fitness, mental health and emotional wellnesss. So, starting with one category at a time, I’ll delve into my self preservation regimen.

First off, I’ll start off with my physical fitness. My diet is full of fish, poultry, fruits and vegetables. I do throw fatty foods and sugar in the mix, but I don’t over indulge in those calorie sources.

Staying with physical fitness, I also perform cardio two to three times a week. Usually, cardio exercise, at least for me, means biking and running. And if I practice these in a wilderness setting, and include hiking with my cardio endeavors, then it’s not only a physical aid, but it helps my mental health…exponentially.

Now, since I’ve mentioned it, I’ll talk about mental health. Writing, which, of course, I’m doing right now, is definitely an enormous aid. It allows me to see myself clearer. It also allows for a sense of dignity and purpose.

Besides writing, finding projects and taking care of my property also helps my mental health. Not only do those help me think clearer, but they help me emotionally. When you can see the fruits of your labor, it gives you a positive perception of yourself.

I also keep tabs on my money. Making sure you have enough to live on, and a small safety net, certainly eases stress. It’s also another task that allows for pride.

Lastly, I get out and about. Taking in a fresh scene and mingling with people, well, yeah, it alleviates stress. It also refreshes and inspires.

So those are my practices, and these are daily activities. I think, as I’ve become older, that my perception was once skewed. I once believed, and I hate to admit it, that having money, and flaunting it, would give me gratification. I realize now, happiness is about hard work, searching for value and taking care of what you have. Carelessly roaming about sounds alluring, yet, finding purpose in everywhere you go, and everything you do, will leave you in better condition.

Have an excellent day!
