How important is spirituality in your life?
Once upon a time, I didn’t believe in spirituality. And to say I didn’t believe in it, okay, maybe I really didn’t realize what spirituality meant. But, later in life, I realized, we all need something to believe in, something we can have faith in.
For me, it’s always been the Christian God. But, was it solely the Christian God? I once had a girlfriend, and she was convinced that, although there was only one true god, he revealed himself in different versions across the globe. I guess she believed that he was finding a suitable form for each culture.
At first, I wasn’t sure I bought into that. But I thought about it further. When I did, I realized the remaining major religions definitely shared common ground. For instance, each religion is a form of monotheism. Not only that, but, in their scriptures, there are strict rules to live by. So, yes, god was creating communities, and he was strengthening them by is wisdom.
I think we need that, guidance. Because, as we seemingly shoo god away, and pit man against man in the plight for selfish goals, we see the decline of morality. And we forget that morals, virtues and positive direction create truly successful people. God has taught us, that by following his creed, we not only become men of god, but men of the community.
So yeah, spirituality, whether you believe it or not, we all need it. Some claim it’s foolish to have blind faith in something. I don’t believe it’s blind faith. I think if we pay attention, and receive what we see with intelligent, rational and objective minds, evidence of god can be seen everyday. He’s not going to tap our shoulders, like a good friend would, but he’ll show us his purpose. Well, we’ll see his purpose if we’re willing to accept it…and sometimes that’s hard.
