Describe your most memorable vacation.
Over the course of fifty years, I’ve had a few decent vacations. To pick a favorite, I’m not sure if I could do it. But, I’ll pick one placid town, a place I’ve visited twice, as leaving a solid impression.
The town is known as Barre de Navidad, or, as it translates in English, Christmas Sandbar. The town is a small, modest community set on the Pacific Ocean. Its no frills appearance, along with Barre’s laid back folks, charmed the socks off of me. So much so, I visited it twice.
If I were to say I found this spot by myself, as one realizes that it’s a fairly obscure stop, I would be lying. My brother-in-law scouted Mexico. His aim? To find a six month home for his family. He found Barre, and I felt obliged to visit.
Later, I wanted to revisit the town. The yearning occurred after my sister’s family returned to Minnesota. So, instead of visiting family, I chose a woman named Heidi to accompany me.
At the onset of the trip, we were only friends. But, as one can imagine, after living in bliss for a week, and even if she stated I wasn’t the most romantic man on Earth, our return to Green Bay saw us as a couple…the relationship turned out to be the longest of my life.
Last year, we parted…but those two weeks in Barre de Navidad remain brilliant memories. As reminders, I have a photo crammed wall, a tribute to those dear to me, with many images from my Mexican vacations.
Have an excellent night!
