What strategies do you use to increase comfort in your daily life?

I

As I think of a sustainable lifestyle, and then think of my dwelling, I realize that an eco-friendly routine can provide comfort. In this post, I’ll explain how going green can ease stress.

As I wash my clothes by hand, I watch a Paramount Plus drama, one that takes place in 1923. On top of that, it’s set out in Montana, and, during one episode, while I was slaving away at the washboard, I viewed an ironic, or coincidental, or however you want to put it, anyways, in a particular episode, dude was peddling wash machines in an Old West town.

I kind of laughed, and my reasons were obvious. I found the irony humorous. With me sitting 100 years beyond the drama’s setting, and vigorously scrubbing my work shirt, it seemed as if I was taking a step back, especially when the peddler hailed the machine’s convenience. The guy also pointed out that those who made the purchase would have an easier lifestyle.

As he did, I contemplated the word easier. Exactly what does that word mean? And one of the cowboys, who ignored his girl’s interest and fascination, echoed my own sentiments.

“That means I’ll have to pay for it, and I’ll also spend money on the electricity you’ll pump into my house. I’ll have to work harder to make things easier.”…as I heard those words, I absolutely agreed.

Here’s the deal…I like Harrison Ford, and, because of my father and grandfather, I feel obligated to watch Westerns. Don’t get me wrong, I do love them. It was just part of my upbringing, and it lends a wholesome feeling. As far as I’m concerned, post Civil War era Western dramas are necessary viewing.

My point is, since I’m going to watch this show anyways, why not do something while I’m seated on my rump. So, while scrubbing the dickens out of my polos, (some of those stains just won’t come out), I watch the development of a range war.

“How is that comfortable?” you may ask. Well, first, I’m saving on both electricity and water. I know, I know, I’m watching TV while washing clothes, and TVs use a considerable amount of energy. But, like I said, I’d watch the show anyways, so, instead of sitting idle, I do something beneficial to not just me…using less water and power, it benefits everyone.

Saving money…having spare change, that’s comfort. And I’d much rather save that money, and I’d love to grow a safety net, rather than leaving some machine do the work, especially if I’ll only be sitting in front of the TV.

Don’t get me wrong, I do have kick back time, but I usually save that for a sporting event.

Other than washing my clothes, and hanging them on the line, I drive an EV. The money I save, as compared to what I’d spend on gas, well, I use it to get ahead on my car payments. And since I’m ahead on my auto loan, and if necessary, should I need to miss a payment, I can shoulder the economical burden. And knowing that, that’s comfort.

I think, and it may seem strange, but an altruistic action, one that can save me money, is a rather comforting feeling. While tending to my daily chores, I’m pitching in…even if I’m a grain of sand in the Sahara.

Have an excellent day!
