Dogs or cats?

Pets. Many people have a furry friend. However, some people are allergic to those hairy beasts. I’m actually one of those individuals. Yet, even if I’m left owning a turtle, it doesn’t mean I don’t have a cuddly critter preference. Today, in my brief Thursday post, I’ll tell you why I prefer dogs over cats.

Before I start, being that I am an avid canine lover, I’d like to say that kittens are very adorable.

However…have ever tried to cuddle with a kitten? You’ll get a forepaw right in the chest. Those claws are little tacks clasped to clothing. Worse yet, those tiny cuties, with their soft innocent eyes, will tenaciously claw your arms. And since I’m allergic to any hairy animal, those scratches become itchy, inflamed streaks on my appendages.

Dogs, on the other hand, even those adorable puppies, well, they’d rather chase a stick. Even better, when they become attached to their owner, they’ll growl at any approaching threat. Let’s see a cat do that.

I’m not saying there’s no upside to owning a cat, but…have you ever given a cat a command…and it actually obeyed? I can’t think of one trained cat. Maybe there are some. But, really, the cats I’ve seen, their only endearing trait is their calm steady purr. Okay, I also like how some will rub their sides against your leg.

But dogs, especially larger dogs, if they’re excited to see you, they’ll all out tackle you – licking your face after you’ve fallen to the ground.

Lastly, since I was raised on a farm, I’m of the opinion that dogs are more intelligent. I’ve witnessed dogs herd cattle. While cats, much to my childhood horror, would find creative ways to die…like getting caught in a barn fan. So, yeah, getting too attached to a cat, well, you were probably setting yourself up for a tragic heartbreak.

Those are my reasons for picking canines over felines. I know not everyone agrees, and, actually, I’m glad everybody is different. If you know me, I say I hate cats. I don’t really hate them, you’ll just never, EVER, catch me in a house with one.
