Was today typical?

My daily life: it’s different than anyone else’s. And my typical day, you know, the one that sees me through my routine, anyways, a normal day happens all the time. Yet, this time around is certainly different. So, in intervals, I’ll periodically add to this post, and I’ll contrast typical events to this day’s occurrences.

11:30 am…

First off, as I get started, this day has been anything but normal. Don’t get me wrong, nothing disastrous has taken place, yet normalcy is not present.

You see, I usually wake up at 8-9 am. This morning, for some odd reason, I couldn’t sleep past five. So, in kind of a stupor, I tried to start my day.

I showered, made breakfast…and then, by seven, I was sleepy. I climbed in bed again, and have only now arisen.

My typical morning sees me doing four crossword puzzles, a brain training app and a Spanish course. So far, this morning, I’ve done one twenty second crossword…ugh..this day is not going well.

My work day starts at 2 pm. Before it does, my goal is to tidy the house, eat lunch and pack a meal for work. If I have time, I’ll do my regular brain training routine.

I should also mention, I had planned a four mile kayak trip before work. It’s not a daily routine, but, on Tuesdays, I do like to tackle some sport activities. There’s absolutely no way I’ll do that today.

So, there, for now, that’s where things sit. Hopefully, I’ll be able to post a quick update before my shift.

3:53 pm

I had promised a before work update, it didn’t happen. I was running late. This is not a typical day. My boss, plus a few key team members, happens to be absent today. Although, really, I don’t know if that has altered my duties. I mean, today, I’ll be performing something other than my normal task. But the onus, or brunt of the burden, was absorbed by someone else. Well, my break will soon end, and I need to utilize the restroom. Next update will be during lunch.

7:37pm

It’s finally lunch time. Although I shouldn’t, because I don’t get paid for it, nor is it in my job description, today, I feel responsible for the team’s failures and, or, accomplishments. And though I voluntarily bear the onus, I have to admit, we should be further along tonight. But we’re not, so I’ll have to adapt and adjust.

As for my lunch, I said I would pack one. I normally do, but today, being that my day isn’t normal, that routine was also skipped. Anyways, I’ll eat and relax.

10:06 pm

I’m on my last break. Phew!…I’m beat. On the upside, as we wind down and turn our duties over to the stocking team, I feel good about how we finished up. There are some small details that must be taken care of, but we met the major goals. So, relief and exhaustion best describes my current status. After my shift, while I cook my after work meal, I’ll fill you in on how this chaotic day ends.

11:24 pm

It was not a typical day, and yet, despite straying from my usual habits, I feel I’ve accomplished much. I’m sitting at my dining table. French fries are in the oven and I’m about to prepare a hot ham and cheese sandwich. Next to me, as I peck these last few sentences on my cellphone, a glass of cherry Dr. Thunder fizzes around ice cubes.

I can say that I am completely drained. Now, as I write this final bit, I realize why I shouldn’t push this fifty year old body. Yet, I know I haven’t learned my lesson.

Have an Excellent Day!
