What are your top ten favorite movies?
When I look back at my life, I realize that maybe, just maybe, I watched a lot of movies. I mean, they were fun, they provided an escape and, sometimes, their morals left an impression on me…but, mostly, they were fun. So, without further ado, here are my ten favs.
First off, let’s start with a very early childhood memory….and a movie that scared the crap out of me. Are you ready or it? The Wizard of Oz. While I was really too young to crave adventure, I still empathized with Dorothy. And, yes, that Wicked Witch from the West terrified me.
Okay, breaking away from toddler terror, and remembering a grade school classic. Do you remember Elliot? He was a boy, who, in that day and age, was about my age. And dude stumbled upon an alien in a shed! Again, I was terrified! Yes, I’ll always remember ET!
One comedy, and I’ve seen it a thousand times, still lives with me…although its popularity has certainly waned. It was a zany, antic filled romp about police cadets. It was fun, and it was simply known as Police Academy.
Another great movie, and, yes, it scared the heck out of me, was Predator. A dangerous alien, taking out bad asses on earth, well, that’s compelling stuff!
In a totally different realm, and certainly any boyhood fantasy, my next choice still makes me smile. I mean, ghost ships…dangerous crime families…buried treasure…how can a movie like that miss? I was the perfect age for Goonies, and it will live with me until I die.
More recently, as I know I’ve probably listed every eighties movie ever produced, I love the Ant Man and the Wasp. The action scenes, with Ant Man going from tiny to a full sized human, are a blast to watch.
I also like Wonder Woman. Heck, what guy doesn’t dream of an island of beautiful women.
And thinking of beautiful women, I’ll admit, James Bond flicks are sentimental favs. My favorite, featuring an indestructible henchman, a glamorous Russian spy, and probably the best Bond car, is The Spy Who Loved Me.
Alright, now, we’re getting to one of my all time favorites. Who doesn’t love Forrest Gump? It’s the ultimate example, in my humble opinion, of how being a good human can aid anyone through life.
Lastly, and I remember watching this in the theater, well, I remember Forrest Gump too. But, honestly, while watching this movie, I’ve honestly never, and I mean NEVER, laughed any harder than my first time watching Tommy Boy...man, Chris Farley…it’s sad you’re gone.
Well, that’s my list. Due to security reasons, I’ve left several favorites off. But honestly, the ones I’ve listed, for whatever reason, left a profound impact on me.
Have an Excellent Day!
