How would you design the city of the future?
The future. When I was young, I spent days dreaming of it. Now, it’s here, and it’s pretty cool. I mean, we have electric cars, cellphones and flat panel televisions…but, what’s next? In this post, I’ll detail my hopes for the future…specifically, I’ll explain my visions of tomorrow’s metro areas.
First off, because I’m a Star Wars fan, and Luke’s desert home sported them, the homes will have domed roofs. And those roofs…they’d be solar collectors, and they’d power the gadgets in the home. Oh, and for effect, the shells would be iridescent.
Of course, inside these homes, shopping would be a breeze. One could simply tap a screen, and the item purchased would be teleported into that person’s house. Yet, since I’ve seen The Fly, and it frightened me, humans would still get around in vehicles.
These vehicles will be steered, not by software, but, by our thoughts. I’ve actually seen a few documentaries, although I couldn’t tell you which ones, that explain how mind control might be possible. Supposedly, the DOD is working on something like that.
Besides mind controlled cars, the major cities would be connected by high speed trains, and when I mention high speed, yeah, I mean high speed. I envision these vehicles in a vacuum tube, and they’d attain velocities yet to be realized.
Anyways, also in my futuristic city, many people will have occupational options. If they want, they can stay home and work. But, if they’d prefer social interaction, there’d also be physical workspaces. And these office buildings, as many already are, would be shiny towers of glass.
As for the layout, I think the grid style still works…at least, as far as personal transportation is concerned. Yet, fast and affordable public transports, where one wouldn’t have to fret over traffic, would be available above and below the city.
My city’s downtown, where the tourism revenue would be earned, would maintain its Victorian Era charm. However, technological wonders would surround that historical island. There, the scents of old world ethnic foods, ones that pay homage to the community’s ancestors, would waft down cobbled streets.
Man, I could go on, but duty begs me from my phone. So, dream, if you will, of my futuristic city. I really believe, if mankind continues to progress, some of my visions will become reality.
Have an Excellent Day!
