What are your favorite types of foods?
During portions of my life, my food choices were limited. Now, looking back, I realize that, while my options were hindered, the food types I loved were always within reach. So, yeah, as it’s been a mainstay since childhood, I’ll write a short post about my favorite food type.
If you had seen me in my youth, you would never have guessed, and it was mainly because I was a scrawny runt, that I, Chris Karas, was an avid fan of protein. Foods like potatoes, hamburgers and pork chops were my culinary desires.
Even if I’ve grown older, not much has changed. I’ll still devour a steak in 2.5 seconds. Well, okay, hunger must overtake me now; I’m not the bottomless pit I was in my youth. But yeah, after physical activity, I better have protein in my house.
I had mentioned cost. When I was a young adult, pork, hamburger and potatoes were consistently on my shopping list. Granted, and admittedly, I made plenty of stops at fast food restaurants. So, yeah, healthy eating and my grocery bill were both out of balance.
Today, because I pay attention to nutritional content, my eating habits have changed. Yet, proteins remain my favorite food type. The sources of my protein intake are simply altered. Dishes such as salmon, turkey and eggs are now my common choices. And fast food, ha, I rarely, and I mean rarely, make a pit stop for a burger.
Don’t get me wrong, I won’t raise my nose to a steak. It’s just not a dietary staple. Mainly, I know there are connections between red meat and cancers, and I’m reaching an age where that is concerning.
So yeah, while I’m becoming a slightly more conscientious eater, the food type I love remains the same. Since I’m nearly fifty, I know that’ll never change.
