What aspects of your cultural heritage are you most proud of or interested in?
My cultural heritage. When someone mentions that, even if I’m proud of my roots, I admit, I have to scratch my head in confusion. In this post, I’ll explain my addled mind.
My dilemma stems from my ancestors. Mainly, I’m European…Eastern Europe, Western Europe, my predecessors came from all over that continent. So, I love sauerkraut and dumplings, brats and beer plus strudel and Kringle. Yet, as I stick with food for a bit, Polish sausage, liver wurst or cow’s tongue…okay, alright, I’d be lying if I said I love tongue, yet, I cherish my forefathers’ palates.
If I were to dig deeper into my origins, I’d also discover that I’m Native American, yet, even though I’m proud of my indigenous blood, I really know nothing about that bloodline.
So, I guess, while my European ancestors have given me cause for pride, I really don’t claim one nationality over another. Rather, I’m left proclaiming my American heritage. And yeah, with the land of opportunity, there’s much to respect.
So, long story short, I think the coolest thing about the United Sates is our Governmental structure. Mainly, I’m impressed because an experiment in democracy has lasted for nearly 250 years. Since that fact fascinates me, I’m interested in the history pertaining to our American Revolution.
Yeah, I’ll end with that. The dudes that made this country work, no matter how we view them today, interest me greatly.
Have an Excellent Night!!
