What was the hardest personal goal you’ve set for yourself?

It was over a decade ago, but it changed my attitude, lifestyle and health…I also became more confident. This change didn’t come easy, and, even today, I’ll never take it for granted. Today, in this short post, I’ll tell you about my life’s toughest challenge.

Admittedly, for about twenty years, I always figured that, one day, I’d eventually stop smoking. For a weird simile, I’ll use this, when drafting the Constitution, our forefathers figured that, eventually, Slavery would end. Fact is, Slavery led to one of our nation’s greatest tragedies, all because they had believed it would simply go away.

My point is this, if you need to make a change, and if your current actions are a detriment to yourself, dude, you must, I stress must, make a concerted effort.

Yeah, I’m not kidding, kicking the habit took a lot of planning, a change in plans and a lot of will power. I’d never been so determined. But the benefits, both mentally and physically, last for a lifetime.

As I recall my determination, I remember the fourth nicotine free day, almost like it was yesterday. There I was, engaged in a movie, with my teeth clenched and my hands tightly fisted. I figured I needed something to occupy my mind; the movie night worked.

After that night, I haven’t craved a cigarette since. Okay, once in a while, a wisp of smoke creates a subtle yearning. Yet, and it’ll stick with me for life, I think back to my heavy, tar filled lungs, and I realize that isn’t any way to live.

If you smoke, I have this advice: pick a cessation method that works for you, and prepare to quit. You can’t just simply throw your lighters and cigarette pack in the trash. It has to be a concerted effort.

I get it, if you fail, you’ll feel a sense of hopelessness, or, even worse, a bit of self loathing. Realize this is a tough challenge, and you, well, you’ve climbed some steep slopes in your life…Everest awaits.

Have an Excellent Day!!
