What principles define how you live?
Everyone needs a set of principles to live by. Basically, it’s what makes an individual an individual. That set of rules, or, sometimes, lack of guidelines, dictate how we go about life. Today, I’ll share my thoughts on principles.
First off, when speaking of principles, honesty has become very important in my life. Really, if I can’t be trusted, well, then, I’m unreliable.
Secondly, and this principle harmonizes with honesty, I’d say integrity is of the utmost importance. Really, acting morally through any issue, dude, it’s tough, and, sometimes, it’ll bring you to your breaking point, yet, being someone I can live with is key.
Third, honoring my parents, and the elders that have paved the way, is essential. Building upon what they have constructed is a sincere goal of mine. They have instilled my principles, and I must carry those lessons forward.
Being a friend to my sisters, and those I come in contact with, is also important. I want to be the best man I can be, and that means being a compassionate, thoughtful human being.
Okay, on the flip side, with the thoughts of being compassionate and thoughtful, I must also include being true to oneself. If someone tries to change your mode of operation, and you don’t feel comfortable with that, sometimes you have to sever ties. It’s one thing to help change someone’s diet, it’s wholly another thing to try to recreate a human being…especially if that person is happy with who they are. I won’t let someone tell me I’m evil because I value something they don’t.
And speaking of value, when meshed with principles, I believe in earning ones keep and being self reliant. I know, once in a while, we all need someone to lean on. Yet, leaning and burying someone are two different things. My aim is to lift people up, yet, first and foremost, I must ensure I’m carrying my own weight.
There are probably points I have forgotten. Yet, for now, I think this piece of writing speaks to my core values. I won’t pretend to be ultra virtuous; I’m not. Yet, even though I’m tangled in a sea of diversity, remaining me is goal number one.
Have an Excellent Day!
