What is your favorite place to go in your city?

I live in Green Bay, Wisconsin. If you don’t hail from the Badger State, and you’re not a football fan, you might not know of this small big city…we only boast a population of 105,000 souls. Yet, despite the city’s modest size, there are cool spots to be found, and they’re all over town. In my short post, I’ll write about my favorite.

I do like history. As I age, I realize that no history is insignificant. We are all entangled in a web of occurrences, and cause and effect may render crazy coincidences.

One common bond, coincidence if you will, is that many US towns can attribute a growth spurt to the emergence of the railroads. Those iron horses clamored through wild landscapes, and they united a vast nation.

So, with all my malarkey aside, okay, maybe it’s true, but, eh, rather inconsequential in our day and age, anyways, my favorite place to hang out, that is when roaming my city, would be the Depot.

The Depot is a gastro-pub, and it has seen presidential speeches on its grounds. It has also seen a-list Jazz musicians, and, oh yeah, in 1929, 20,000 people gathered at this spot to celebrate the Packers’ first NFL championship…I just learned that fact.

So, being endowed with all that history, and a unique menu, this establishment is loved by me…and, oh, their beer choices are great!

But, back to my choice’s history: The Depot resides in a late 19th century building, it was actually erected on the cusp of the 20th century, and it was a vital passenger train terminal. Today, freight trains still pass by this vestige, and the interior has been well preserved.

Anyways, if going out on the town, that’d be my choice. The service, well, lately, and I haven’t visited in a while, but, they should really work on that.

Have an Excellent Day!!
