What are your feelings about eating meat?

If you had spied me in my youth, you’d never have guessed my eating habits. I was a skinny rail, yet, for some reason, my body ravenously craved protein. Yes, to me, it was a deflating contradiction. I ate tons of muscle building fuel…yet…eh…nah, nothing. Anyways, today, in my brief post, I’ll tell you why I still love meat.

Meat is a weighty answer to hunger. In my youth, man, besides potatoes, I don’t believe I subsisted on many other foods. Yes, because of its nutritional value, it will always be on my plate.

Okay, alright, admittedly, as I age, my meat consumption has tapered off…well, it has a little bit. I can actually remember the moment, and I remember the feeling, that caused me to shy away from red meat.

It had started a long time ago, while I was visiting my sister. She lives in Minneapolis, and she had invited me to her church. While I was there, the congregation was celebrating an African mission. To celebrate, they were offering native eats, ones from that mission’s particular region.

I ate a funkybpiece on a stick. The alien spices, gamey meat and tough textures were very foreign. So foreign in fact, the food was unpalatable. Yet, I suffered through it.

Later, after that gamey meat, I was heading home…and…alright, before I get to the next part, I’ll explain why I loved meat.

It was simple…heavy, savory, juicy grade a beef weighted my light body down. I might have had a tapeworm, I’m not sure, but that foreign food may have killed it.

Okay, it’s very doubtful that meat would kill a tapeworm, but I’ll get back to my story.

Anyways, usually, after saying my goodbyes, I’d look forward to a roadside diner in Cadott, Wisconsin. It was about halfway between my house and Minneapolis. Yet, as I said goodbye to Laurie, the thought of a giant hamburger made my stomach churn. I had pictured that enormous, greasy burger, and my stomach screamed in protest, “No way in hell!”

From that point on, I rarely eat red meat. I still consume a rather large protein portions, yet, beef, eh, I tend to opt for lighter choices.

So, long story short, this is how I feel about meat: I think it’s essential, yet, with occasional exceptions, I avoid the red variety.

Have an Excellent Day!
