Tell us about your first day at something — school, work, as a parent, etc.
A long time ago, when Black Friday was at its peak, I began my career in retail. Today, being that the holiday shopping season is in full swing, I’ll recall my befuddled self, that would be my outlook on my very first day of work.
It was my first taste of Walmart, it was the day before Thanksgiving and It was crazy. The store hadn’t closed yet, and employees were racing everywhere.
I remember asking an assistant manager, “Is it always like this?”
He shook his head with an ambitious smile, “No, this only happens once a year…and I love it!!” I looked around, everywhere associates were buzzing. They were taking features off the floor. Others were making room on end caps. Still, others, who were securing items for Friday, were shrink wrapping features, and they were bringing them onto the sales floor…shooing customer’s from the Black Friday deals as they did.
In short, my first day in retail, and my first day at Walmart, was delightful chaos!
