What skills or lessons have you learned recently?
Recently, and it’s actually an ongoing process, I’ve been learning to speak more Spanish. I’m not fluent, nor will I ever be, but I’m picking up countless words and phrases. I really enjoy the language learning process.
Plus, being in a culturally diverse setting, learning new languages has its advantages. So, with that in mind, I’ve also learned how to greet people in Ethiopian and Hmong. Yet, being that they’re not Romantic languages, meaning they’re not derived from Latin, I’m never going to figure them out. Even though I’ll never understand these very foreign dialects, it’s cool when I see a surprised and approving immigrant’s face, that is when I greet that person in their native tongue.
So, for now, I’ll learn more Spanish, and I’ll try a few very basic conversations.
