Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a youth. What became of it?
When I was young, there were a few items I absolutely loved, and I interacted with them a lot. If I were to pick one, it’s hard to choose an ultimate favorite. Instead, from a fun list of items, I’ll let nostalgia reign and recall a very unique gadget…it’s especially nostalgic for men my age. This particular toy brings back tons of memories, anyways, I’m going to write about my Coleco baseball game.
Video games were a huge eighties craze…everybody knows that. However, not everyone has heard of Coleco. When it came to electrical game devices, they were one of the front runners.
Why I really remember them, and I think every male in my generation would recall it, was based on a digital football game. Basically, there were several Led images on a small hand held game. One would manipulate controls and cause illuminated images to move across a screen. Your opponent would do likewise, and, in a rough sort of way, it somewhat simulated a game of football.
I never owned that game, but I did play it with friends.
Yet, very much like the football game, Coleco also made a baseball version. It allowed one to play head to head. One person would select pitch speed and variety, and the other would try to hit said pitch. It was pretty fun, however, I rarely played a full nine innings.
Aside from that game, and in the same ball park, I also had a Tron digital console. Being based on an ultra cool sci fi movie, Tron had images that I thought were awesome. Also, compared to Head to Head Baseball, Tron was a tad more advanced…it had multiple levels.
Yet, for some darn reason, I really liked the baseball game more.
If you’re wondering, both games could be powered by either batteries or the wall outlet. Surprisingly, the batteries lasted fairly long.
After childhood, but some years ago, I stumbled upon the games while rummaging through an outdoor storage shed. Unbelievably, the baseball game worked perfectly. However, and a bit disappointingly, the Tron game was tragically glitchy.
Now, I have no idea where those devices are. I do appreciate my parents, and those who designed those games, for providing memories that have carried into my fifties.
Have an Excellent Day!!
