The NFL season is over, and, you know what, I’m not too keen on those second tier football leagues…did they actually merge and become one league? Does anybody care? Anyways, since football season is over, here’s what I’ll be doing:

Watching Soccer

Well, as I think further into my winter viewing activities, I’ll also watch some hockey, but, mostly, I’ll be watching soccer. There’s literally five great European leagues to watch, and their seasons are in full swing, and, because I have decent streaming apps, I’m privy to four of those leagues. So, yeah, I’ll be watching quality soccer.

I’d be lying, and it’d be a grand illusion, if I were to say I was a lifelong soccer fan…that’s far from the truth. Even if I did watch soccer in my youth, when I reached young adulthood, like most Americans, I ripped on the sport.

And as I think about the evolution, that being turning from hater to lover, I’d attribute it to the US women’s national team. Suddenly, as I watched very competitive games, this ancient game was fun to watch.

When the Women’s World Cup was over, and as a I searched for more competitive games to watch, I sought out the MLS, and I found interesting games, and venues, reverberating against my living room’s walls…

Come to think of it, the MLS season starts Saturday. Since games are within driving distance, and considering Apple TV’s coverage is excellent, and considering the action is equally excellent, I purchased the MLS season pass yesterday…I’m all set…I’m hoping great things from Minnesota United.

Even if the Loons don’t do well, I have a ton of other favorite teams. I’m thinking of forces like LAFC, the Portland Timbers, the Columbus Crew…there’s actually a couple more too!

Hopefully, during the season, as I’m dying to experience Allianz Field, I’ll convince a few friends to accompany me. That’d be a ton of fun…and I’d save another game for my sister’s family. That’d be this summer’s dream.

In its purest sense, soccer is quite easy to understand. Yet, the nuances, and the strategies, well I’m still learning many of the intricacies.

One thing that I’m learning, and it seems a dangerous strategy, there are some teams who are content on playing defense, and they’ll create opportunities in transition. Even if that’s the case, usually, the team who leads in possession is often the stronger team.

Another thing that I’m still processing, and I may never understand it, but I’m a bit confused about the handball rules. I’ve seen matches, when the striker kicks towards the penalty box, and the ball hits a defender’s hands. Sometimes, it results in a penalty kick, other times, well, they let it slide. While viewing these perplexing happenings, I’ve heard the commentator’s explain such decisions, but I don’t always agree with their explanations.

Of course, as I’m taking in a ton of soccer, much is still new to me. I hadn’t even realized the Champions League was going on. Guess what, that’s more soccer I can watch…thanks CBS sports app…

Ooh, segue! So you know, if you want to stream Paramount Plus and the CBS Sports app for free, like I do, there is a way…just sign up for Walmart +. I know, I’m pushing my workplace’s products. But, seeing how I use it all the time, and it makes more sense than Amazon Prime, I ditched the competitor’s services.

Anyways, as you can see, I’m atoning for sinfully liking a team, a group of players I admire, who wear a competitor’s logo on their jersey…forgive me Walmart.

With that being said, well, as you can tell, I’m all set for a spring full of soccer action!

Have an Excellent Day!!
