Are you patriotic? What does being patriotic mean to you?
It seems, in this world, many times, if we chastise our government, or if we demonstrate a little too radically, we’re accused of being unpatriotic. Sometimes, those accusations are false, and sometimes, well, not every citizen loves our country. Which brings me to my reflective question, “Am I patriotic?”
This is my answer…
Yes, I strongly believe in this country, and I’d die protecting those that believe in its principles. I think our democracy, although it has come into question, has been a template for other nations.
Do I believe that the US occasionally imposes its will? Yeah, when regarding other nations, sometimes I think our leaders screw up, and sometimes we interfere with biased interests, and, sometimes, we’ve fallen back on promises.
Yet, as far as international relations are concerned, I believe that, because our people desire it, our government is striving to be a good world community member. That being said, being the strongest nation on Earth, which is how I picture the United States, well, in occasional instances, we tend to want it our way. Yet, I believe we try to be judicious in our efforts.
To me, if I were to define patriotism, the word simply implies that I love my country. When I was younger, I was probably much more patriotic. Not to say I’ve lost some love for my country, I just don’t see things as I once did. I also don’t believe our founding fathers were as pure as I had once thought.
But yes…this nation, the idea of democracy…I believe in that.
Have an Excellent Day!
