Tell us about your favorite pair of shoes, and where they’ve taken you.
Okay, today, my topic is fairly mundane, and it’s also rather weird. If I were to like a friend’s shoes, it can start many conversations, especially if we share similar tastes. Yet, I don’t know if it’s a great autobiographical topic.
Don’t get me wrong, I do have an affinity for footwear, and I do have a few favorite brands. Yet, as I ponder my closet, I don’t know if I have an absolute favorite shoe.
If I were to really choose one pair of shoes, that being over the many I’ve worn in my life, I’d choose my hiking sandals. Summertimes find me wearing those beat up, tattered and worn foot garments constantly.
As for the places I’ve been, that is with those sandals on my feet, there have been memorable moments. Once, while in Mexico, I coaxed my girlfriend into a four mile walk along the beach…it was literally from one town to the next.
As I think about that trek, I know she’ll never forgive me, mainly because, as her exhausted body hit a bench along our destination’s beach, the local bus, one that transported people between both towns, pulled up next to us. Thankfully, the irony rendered a mighty laugh.
There were other instances, memorable moments, in which my hiking sandals have accompanied me. They’ve been with me on tons of hikes, including a rocky climb towards a bluff’s crest. I feel really bad about that hike, because, at the end, being that I was with the same girlfriend, and being that the hike was long and arduous, she was in no laughing mood.
Anyhoo, reminiscing is fun, and it caused me to fondly recall a past relationship. It’s strange how one simple item can elicit good humor. Eh, maybe it’s time for a new set of sandals, and, being that I’m still alive and well, maybe it’s time for new memories.
Have an Excellent Day!!
