This MLS season is becoming interesting, and week three is now in the books. Yet, despite this weekend’s expiration, there will be moments that will endure, and those instances have impacted the early standings.
Take Saturday’s one o’clock match up, that match up pitting New York City against the Portland Timbers. Despite the excitement, and due to a last minute goal, the Big Apple fans left dejected.
The most prominent aspect of that match up? I think last year’s sub par Timbers has transformed into this year’s Western Conference leaders…albeit it’s very early.
Another exciting game, and another I had watched, was MNUFC traveling to Orlando City. Once again, a last minute goal subdued the home crowd. That rose another sub standard MLS team to the Western Conference’s top.
So far, as I look at Orlando, they’re hard to read. They managed to tie Liga MX’s Tigres, who are a Mexican perennial powerhouse. Yet, that same Orlando City was pummeled by Inter Miami, and this latest loss to the undermanned Loons certainly raises questions. In all reality, with so many chances in Saturday’s game, Orlando should have won the match. They just failed to execute.
The last game I watched on Saturday, and I have to say it was a surprise, was LAFC versus Sporting Kansas City. It ended in a scoreless tie.
With LAFC’s scoring prowess, I was expecting a few goals. Yet, despite the lack of scoring, and as you might suspect, there was some stellar goal tending…highlight reel stuff. So watching the match, which I suffered through until the final whistle, wasn’t a total loss.
I have to say, if Kansas City can score goals, with their great defense, they will be hard to beat. Yes, If there’s one team I can’t stand, It’s SKC. If you’re a fan of the team, don’t be offended, I’m just a Loons fan, and SKC is my fav’s biggest nemesis.
Beyond that, St Louis still looks strong, stealing a point at the end of their game. And on the flip side, Austin…Austin…what the heck?…you’re in a hole.
With that said, those were the only games I had watched. Oh, I did catch Inter Miami versus Montreal. Messi and Suarez didn’t play, and, because of that, Miami suffered their first loss of the season. However, Robert Taylor did have a strong showing, although he struggled to find the net.
All and all, the MLS has been providing quality entertainment, and my Saturday’s have been stellar. Many more games are to come, and, after the CONACAF Champions Cup, I expect the standings will be shaken.
It should be a fun year.
Have an Excellent Day!!
