Do you know what I love about the MLS? I’ll respond to my own question with an easy answer, my fanaticism stems from one word: PARITY. If you’re wondering what I mean, take a look at the Western Conference. In the standings, 9 of the 14 teams are within 3 points of each other. That means several teams can totally change their fortune with one win…or vice versa.

And while the Eastern Conference is a bit more spread out, the top three teams are no more than two wins above most in the field.

So, as you might guess, especially when considering the log jammed standings, most MLS matches should be worth watching. Yet…even if it may seem unnecessary, seeing how every team has something to play for, I’ll pick five games I’m dying to watch.

My first chosen match, an afternoon affair, is actually chosen because of its time slot. Moreover, it pits two Western Conference teams, who, if you had watched last week’s matches, recovered from losing the week prior.

Portland erased a 3 goal deficit last week, and, while they didn’t win the match, they miraculously secured a point in the standings, ending their three game skid.

On the other hand, LAFC must be riding high after conquering their most prominent rivals: the LA Galaxy. So, both LAFC and the Timbers are building momentum, and Portland’s Providence Park, the best soccer venue in North America, should be rocking.

Okay, I’ll move on to the many East Coast games, which, for those of you who don’t know, begin at six thirty central time. I’m going to pick only one, and I’m going to make a daring guess. It may turn out to be a winner, or it may turn out to be an epic fail.

Anyways…here’s my pick…

Okay, Chris…be brave…alright, alright, this pick won’t lead to my doom. And because of that, I’m going to say that Orlando City taking on DC United might be a fun game to watch.

Orlando is starting to gain points, and DC United is looking to bounce back from last Saturday’s loss. The weather conditions should be perfect. Our nation’s capital will be windy on Saturday afternoon, but, by game time, things should settle down, and the temps will be in the mid fifties.

Now, let’s go an hour later into Saturday night. Of the central time zone games, while there might more intriguing games, I’m sticking with my favorite team: Minnesota United. The Twin Cities club hasn’t won its last two games, and Houston is attempting to bounce back after losing to Chicago.

I think Minnesota will be fun to watch. Yes, I can see an interesting progression with the Loons newly appointed coach Eric Ramsay. As I watch with curiosity, I’m wondering if it’ll be another step forward on Saturday.

Even if the game is a bust, the fans will appreciate the temps. They can look forward to mid sixties at kick off.

If Messi plays, Sporting Kansas City versus Inter Miami might be another great match up. During the last two games, Kansas City has given up multiple goal leads. I believe they lead the league in points lost from a winning position. So, Sporting will look to play a full ninety minutes.

On the flip side , when Messi takes the pitch, the Herons are the best team in the MLS…even if I’d rather not say that. In addition, the visiting Miami club will enjoy a beautiful midwestern evening. Well, they’ll enjoy it if they prevail.

Lastly, if you’re looking for tons of offense, my last pick may satiate that craving. At nine thirty central time, the LA Galaxy will visit Vancouver, and the two teams are tied for most goals scored in the Western Conference. So, as common sense should tell you, this promises to be an exciting face off. However, because there is parity, and the MLS is unpredictable, it depends on which players are prepared to play.

It’ll be a cool night in British Columbia, but the boys from Cali should handle the mid forties temps well.

If you read this post through, you’ll totally realize another fun match day is fast approaching, and I’m mega-psyched. Will the top teams gain breathing room, or will those on the lower rungs create a pile of contestants…?We’ll see!!

Entertainment is the Goal!
