Well, last Saturday’s MLS games were fun to watch, yet, were my thoughts on those matches precise? Anyone, including myself, certainly should have realized that I had blundered…but, thankfully, to err is human…Damn, I must be superhuman!
Let me explain.
First off, there were TWO matches, TWO matches, not just one, that pitted teams with goal scoring prowess, and, in both of those fun contests, a sizable total of four quality goals were scored. So, probably, while I did hype the Vancouver versus LA Galaxy affair as a goal extravaganza, I should have done the same with Portland versus LAFC.
Yes, I understand, neither game finished 4-4, but there were plenty of quality chances, quality saves and quality…well, both games were definitely worth watching.
I can hear you ask, “So why didn’t you hype both as such, Chris?” I’ll answer it like this, I believe LAFC went three straight games without scoring a goal…albeit it was nearly a month ago, yes, the trend may have indicated that LAFC has remedied that…but, dude, it was three straight games. Plus, they ended the drought by scoring 5 tallies against Nashville, so I understood that game to be, after such a barren streak, an instance in which LAFC simply padded the stats.
So, being that the drought occurred early in the season, and being the team was making transitions, I’ll now consider the boys in black, once again, a true goal scoring threat…but, yeah, I could have hyped BOTH games as battles riddled with tons of scoring.
In the end, after Portland was issued a second half red card, the Timbers survived the pressure, and, despite being down a man, Portland earned a valuable point in a 2-2 draw. Plus, Portland’s Evander scored the best goal of the match…check it out on YouTube.
My next chosen match, uhh…well, I am slightly biased, and, while watching this game, I felt Minnesota United would, at the very minimum, secure a point…they didn’t.
In the first half, despite turf monsters destroying MNUFC’s offensive continuity, the Houston Dynamo certainly earned three points. I do feel Minnesota will become stronger as the season progresses. Will Reynoso ever play for the team again? That remains to be seen.
Alright, another huge blunder…and this is inexcusable, I failed to mention that Inter Miami versus Sporting Kansas City would be played at Arrowhead Stadium. When building up a game, and when considering atmosphere as a clear cut entertainment enhancer, I should have mentioned that the game would be played in that famous sports arena. Yet, Arrowhead Stadium versus Providence Park, dude, I’ll stick with Providence Park.
I had also mentioned that the game would be good if Messi played, there were 72,000 avid fans in Arrowhead, of course he was going to play.
Oh, as I felt sheepish writing the words above, and as I feel the next fact is certainly a consolation, the LA Galaxy versus Vancouver absolutely lived up to the hype.
Granted, in the end, Joseph Paintsil and the Galaxy walked away with a two goal triumph. Yet, even if the end result was a bit lopsided, that didn’t stop Vancouver from unleashing a final goal attempt flurry. What can I say, the game was fun.
Lastly, Orlando versus DC United…was I really making a bold pick? Yes, Orlando is near the bottom of the Eastern Conference, but the team possesses talents like Ojeda and Muriel. This group is better than their record, and Saturday’s exciting 3-2 win is evidence of that fact.
To add to that, DC United’s Christian Benteke is fun to watch, and despite losing, DC United also appears to be a formidable force. Yes, both teams put on a show. And to add to the five goals scored, it was a rather chippy affair.
So, after all my ridiculous errors, yes ridiculous, inexcusable, incompetent…anyways, should I even try another post on Thursday?…Why the heck not?
Entertainment is the Goal!!
