Last night, on the United States’ West Coast, a very entertaining soccer match took place. The venue was perfect, the crowd was rowdy and the players were dazzling. I was more than grateful to watch the game.
MNUFC and the Portland Timbers faced off in Providence Park. Early, it seemed that MNUFC, who were missing a few of their regulars, would easily win the game. They started off strong, and the visiting Minnesota crew scored two early goals.
But the Loons tired, and the Timbers became stronger as the game wore on. I felt Portland’s goals, despite great effort from Minnesota United, were well earned. The final score was 3-2 in favor of the home team.
On July 3rd, Minnesota looks to right the ship, and they’ll take on the Vancouver Whitecaps. Vancouver looked strong last night. During another West Coast game, the Whitecaps constructed a two goal comeback of their own, and they proved they are worthy contenders for the championship. So, Wednesday’s game should be another entertaining match.
