Today’s the Fourth of July, and we, the American people, are celebrating the Declaration of Independence. I’d say we’re celebrating the birth of our nation, yet, as I’ve learned, America’s break from the British Empire came to pass with multiple steps.

I mean, before the declaration, shots had already been fired. Not to mention, as that document was approved by the Continental Congress, a large British fleet was about to set siege to New York City. So, really, the declaration was a formality. It was a necessary step, and we recognize it as the moment we fled the rule of monarchy. Yet, had there been no Declaration of Independence, the Revolutionary War would have undoubtedly still taken place. We would have most likely celebrated Lexington and Concord instead…well, maybe.

Anyways, even if the Colonies remained in disarray until the 1790’s, here’s to July 4, 1776.

Have an Excellent Day!
