It’s a rather uneventful day, so I thought I’d write a bit about the Leagues Cup. If you don’t know, the Leagues Cup pits Liga MX clubs against their MLS rivals.
So far, both leagues appear comparable, and neither organization seems the dominant entity. Being that both of these groups are near the world’s top ten, I appreciate that. I mean, really, the European league’s prestige makes it very hard to gain premiere talent. Yet, even if they compete with the talent heavy top five, the MLS and Liga MX have some very impressive players.
As a matter of fact, I believe Minnesota United secured a striker from Italy’s Serie A. Granted, he’ll probably be the highest paid Loon, but acquiring men from one of the top five makes the MLS relevant…when talking about the world stage.
Anyways, back to the Leagues Cup. The iconic Chivas of Guadalajara have been eliminated. That came after a very entertaining match between two of North America’s finest. Yes, one of the MLS icons, the LA Galaxy, beat Chivas in a penalty kick shootout.
Even if Guadalajara has been sent home, that doesn’t mean there will be an MLS winner. Club America will be the MLS’s biggest hurdle. Yet, before taking on an MLS team, Club America will have to take on Atlas, which is a Liga MX battle.
If any of that sounds interesting, hang on, there’s a ton more. I won’t write any more however. I have to work today, yet, tomorrow, I’ll be watching a few games. I hope you will too!
