Years ago, I played drums all the time. In the same breath, years ago, I stopped playing musical instruments. Today, I remembered why I quit. The reason is simple, and I think a lot of musicians would agree.

Equipment costs a lot.

Granted, you can find instruments in pawn shops. But, if you want to be a stage musician, belief in your equipment helps. My entire life, save for my parents’ piano, I had cheap, low end, music makers. Yet, whether they were inferior quality or not, I learned how to play. I’m not a maestro, but I certainly could entertain a few people.

I know, and I understand, musicians like Kurt Cobain used second hand guitars all the time. I’m not Kurt Cobain. Yeah, I need all the help I can get, and a quality instrument certainly helps.

Anyways, my cheap guitar is now tuned, and my audience is my thrift store art. So, it really doesn’t matter. Should I see a stage, maybe I’ll pony up the dough. But, for now, I know it doesn’t take a $2,000 dollars to play “Back in Black”.

Have an Excellent Night!
