I think we can blame it on the Chicago Fire. Yeah, I’m almost certain Wisconsin benefited from that carnage… but so did everyone else. Let me explain:

You see, when that 1871 blaze decimated that burgeoning town, among the chaos, Chicago’s breweries were also victims, and beer baron Captain Frederick Pabst, along with other German’s from Milwaukee, took advantage, and their market share exploded.

Since then, America’s Dairyland has been known for making beer. Today, although the big five have dispersed, breweries still abound all over the scenic state of Wisconsin.

Here, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, it’s no different, and today, because time seems to be on my side, I’ll tell you about three small Title Town beer producers.

Hey, did I just say Title Town? If I did, this brewery’s title should make perfect sense. Title Town Brewing Company was the first craft beer maker in the city. Today, most of its permanent beers have hung in there, with a couple of additions of course. And like any other of today’s mentioned breweries, its seasonal beers rotate.

The brewery is set in an old cannery building, and its rooftop bar overlooks downtown Green Bay.

Among my Title Town favs, ones that never have retired, you’ll delight in a Green 19 IPA, Johnny Blood Irish Red or a Bent Tuba.

The second stop on my tour, a place much like a trendy warehouse, complemented with a modernly hip taproom, is Badger State Brewing Company. Here, like Title Town Brewing Company, the house beers are delish. You could try an On Wisconsin, Bunyan Badger Brown Ale or a Brew-Ski.

Badger State’s beer garden is the best in town, and live bands perform in that fenced, grassy oasis.

Lastly, on my list of breweries, you’ll find an old meat processing plant. Don’t get grossed out, now it’s known as Copper State Brewery… which pays tribute to northern Wisconsin’s copper mines. The beer list is long, and, with beers like Good ‘n’ Ruddy, you’ll sure to find an outstanding beer.

Copper state also houses a coffee bar. Included with that, unlike my other two choices, this brewery also offers a full menu. And like Title Town Brewing Company, the antiquated building exudes a rather gritty, 19th century vibe.

Well, gosh darn it, dere ya go! Tree beer places fer ya out a towners! I hope, maybe, just maybe, if I successfully explained these establishment’s highlights correctly, I sparked some interest, and you’ll stop by, especially if you love craft beer.

Safe Travels!
