My Favorite Olympic Sports

What Olympic sports do you enjoy watching the most?

Because they draw a world wide audience, I think the Olympics are worth watching. Whether it be summer or winter games, there’s plenty of entertaining events to keep tabs on. Yet, when considering what sports I find interesting, I probably differ from most.

Before I present my list of favorite events, I’d like to mention my Olympics viewing method. It’s always fun to root for an athlete that, regardless of home country, I’ve selected for personal reasons. Some of the competitor’s backstories make it impossible to root against them. So, straying from nationalism, I’m just as likely to root for a Chinese, Lithuanian or Kenyan as much as I’m prone to root for an American…although I do tend to lean towards the USA.

So, with that in mind, here are some of my favorite events.

A new sport added to the Olympics, at least fairly recently, is mountain bike racing. During the last summer games, I had fun watching the competition. Although the TV voice seemed to know little about the sport, his partner was knowledgeable and insightful. Plus, the abilities those athletes possessed left me tickled.

Also during the Summer Olympics, I love to watch the triathlon. I know, boring. For some reason, I like watching that grueling display of endurance. It makes me wonder if, had I not smoked, I could have participated in a similar event.

Lastly, I’ll include a winter games event, or set of events. I love anything to do with snowboards or skis, especially when there’s aerial tricks involved. Men’s events, women’s competitions…it doesn’t matter. I’m awed by the participants’ athleticism and courage.

So, those are my favorite events. I’m not saying that these competitions are all I watch. I’ll watch basically anything, but the ones I’ve listed above are my favorites. Like I said, it’s fun to watch, especially when the competition is live, realizing the world is watching along with you.
