What place in the world do you never want to visit? Why?
There are so many interesting spots in the world, many with unique allure. One day, when I’m older, I plan on visiting quite a few. With that being said, there are a few spots I probably will never visit. And to answer this prompt, I’ll list the one place I have absolutely no desire to see: Antarctica.
First of all, save for a handful of scientists, nobody lives there, so, of course, there’s no foreign culture to observe. Well, I’m sure the penguins have their own rituals, but I’m not diving in the cold water for food.
Secondly, it’s cold in Antarctica, unbearably cold, and there’s no trees around, so a cabin in the woods is out of the question.
Lastly, and I’ve already touched on it, there are no sights on the continent. Nothing. Just a sheet of ice. I love placid landscapes, but there, well, there’s white…frigid white. And since nobody has ever lived there…ever, the place has zero history. Well, there were expeditions to the South Pole, but….yikes!
Okay, I’m sure I’m not the only one who will choose Antarctica. I think it’s a no brainer. With no landscape, culture or historic sights, why the heck would you want to go there?

Plus, you would have to go through the Drake Passage (unless you flew) which is known as the roughest sea on earth. Good choice not to go!

Lol!! I was unaware of the Drake Passage. Add that to the long list of reasons. Thanks for the comment!

Betty, I was just thinking, and I know, how could I forget this? but the Drake Passage is mentioned in Moby Dick. He describes the mountains and seas when rounding Cape Horn. So yes, I stand corrected, I have heard of it, just forgot. Thanks for the info anyways!

Isn’t it funny how our minds sometimes keep working on something? I have never read Moby Dick, but now I know Drake’s Passage is mentioned in it! Thanks for the info, too!

Actually for me, it’s two fold. I’m actually reading about a shipwreck that took place on that stretch. This book is far less romantic than Moby Dick. Rat eaten sails, termite and mold infested Timbers plus bouts of typhus and scurvy….and from the sounds of it, it’s about to get worse.

Have you read “Endurance” by Alfred Lansing. From what you say, you may like it. And you may just change your mind about Antarctica – or not.

I’ll sample read it…you may be right. Over the years, my stance on many subjects has changed.
