Do you remember life before the internet?

The internet, when I was a young adult, many claimed it would change the world…and it did. Yet, it’s been around for so long, it seems, and I’m only half joking, but….were we living in log cabins before its inception? I know that’s not the case of course, but life certainly moved at a slower pace before the World Wide Web.

I remember door to door salesmen. Many times, if you’d listen to their spiel, they’d promise you a great deal and a free gift. Of course , since the internet wasn’t invented yet, many of those vendors were selling encyclopedias.

I remember somebody saying, at the very onset of online shopping, that it would put an end to brick and mortar stores. I kind of scoffed at the notion. I had reasoned, “If mail order catalogues haven’t destroyed them, why would the internet?” That was back when I had dial up service. I didn’t realize how hassle free Amazon would be.

Considering that technological evolution, now, we expect everything immediately. I think the internet, combined with lightning fast digital devices , has done that to society. That’s why I crave a national park setting. My phone, my TV and My Echo Dot, they’re all pushing things I don’t want. It’d be nice to just relax in some natural spot. I say that, but I had passed up the chance in California.

Of course you can’t forget social media platforms. I remember hearing, when listening to those wide eyed fortune tellers, that, with the internet, we would have any type of info at our fingertips. And I guess that’s true, but there’s a ton of B.S. along with those credible sources.

I could go on: streaming services, dating apps, online banking and the like. The truth is, yes, I remember life before the internet. Despite the chaos it causes, I don’t think I’d go back to those days. If you need something…BAM, it’s right there. And though good things come to those who wait, I’d rather not, if I don’t have to.

Have an excellent day!
