Scour the news for an entirely uninteresting story. Consider how it connects to your life. Write about that.
The news…hmmm. You know, lately, I haven’t followed current events. I know, that leaves me detached from the world around me. Besides that, I’m oblivious to hot topics for conversation. So, today, I thought I’d sift through news stories. And while I did, I sought out the most boring story. After slogging through half of one particular article, I have these thoughts.
My chosen news story, where the melee comes from afar, is a recurring theme, and that theme has become nauseating, In LA, the threat of a government shutdown looms. How does this affect me? It does, but it really doesn’t. However, in the mesh of American society, it’s a repulsive pattern that has become epochal.(Okay, in a rare instance, I used a thesaurus. Epochal basically means a sign of the times.)
These are my thoughts, and this why such a story affects me. First of all, seemingly, when the threat of a governmental shutdown invades the news, everybody throws up their hands, exclaiming “This should never happen!” And, like I said, everyone seemingly agrees…even the politicians who stood in the way.
So…Why does the problem persist?
First off, I have no insight to any type of governing body. Federal, state, local…student body, I never served in any elected position. So my conclusions are broad speculation.
That being said, it’s an obvious political game, one where rivals pressure and smear their opponents. It works. So, as much as I hate the tension and drama, this ploy is not going away.
How does it affect me? Well, if this was hitting closer to home, and not in Los Angeles, when I here about it, whether occurring on the federal, state or local levels, yeah, it’s cause for tension. Automatically, questions arise: “will I get my mail?”…”Will this affect my income tax return?”…”Will I be able to renew my driver’s license?”
So, like being a kid listening for school cancellations, well, since you don’t want these agencies shut down, it’s kind of in reverse, anyways, we intently listen to the news. That way, we know what we’ll be able to do…and where our luck runs out.
Anyways, as far as the Los Angeles shut down…it won’t affect me a bit. Yet, if politicians get what they want, and the threat proves effective, I’m sure, sooner or later, it’ll complicate my world as well.
Have an Excellent Day!
