How do you relax?
Today, on a perfectly sunny day, with comfortable temps to match, I’ve been active. Even so, later, when my chores are finished, I’ll kick back and relax…it’ll be well deserved. In this post, I’ll detail my Saturday evening plans.
How this endeavor came to be, that is to say, how I fell into this habit, was due to a progression of events. And the beginning, as I think back to years past, was spurred with my interest in the Women’s World Cup…I Think most people know of this prestigious soccer tournament.
When it was over, I craved more soccer. I thought this sport, which really, as I recall my childhood, I had always passively watched, anyways, I thought soccer was very fun and very entertaining. And, as I had the five dollar streaming app, I discovered ESPN Plus carried a ton of MLS matches…and they were free with subscription.
For those of you who don’t know, MLS is a North American soccer league, one comprised of teams hailing from the United States and Canada….mostly US teams.
Back then, the quality of play was lacking. Yet, despite that, some of the matches were a blast to watch. Particularly, a Portland vs Seattle match really sparked genuine interest in the league. So, it was a fun way to spend a Saturday night.
Now, well, the league has improved, and I have to pay a few more dollars to watch. But, you know what, while football will probably remain my favorite spectator sport, soccer is a close second.
People that rip on soccer, and, in my youth, I had been one of those people, claim that soccer is merely men kicking a ball around. Have you ever watched Baseball? Seriously, if you have no allegiance to the teams in the contest, and you’re not simply using it for background noise, you might be better entertained watching a freshly painted wall dry.
Anyways, because soccer is fun to watch, and Apple realizes this, you can stream every match on Apple TV…for a fee. Still, even if I have to pay for it now, compared to the cost of streaming my favorite baseball team, it’s more affordable. So, even if I’m a traditionalist, I’ll still watch an American soccer league over America’s past time.
Oh…and the fact that Lionel Messi plays in the MLS, yeah, that made the league a lot more interesting. And the interest isn’t simply in the United States. I think I’ve read that Messi doubled the amount of Apple TV MLS Season Pass subscribers. And, as the playoffs near, and his team climbs from the cellar, interest will probably mount.
So, that was a long story…but, there’s more. With Messi’s announcement, and a TV on my sunporch, I had decided that I could make a sports viewers haven. So now, with cushioned wood benches to sit on, and my windows open, I’ll enjoy watching the game. I have a theater sound system, so with my seating, and the outdoor feel, it’s close to a stadium atmosphere.
So, now, as the games will soon begin, and burgers and fries are being prepared, I have my sights set on the MLS.
Have an Excellent Day!
