Name the professional athletes you respect the most and why.
When we’re young, we tend to gravitate towards role models. Heck, even now, a successful human being might influence my own actions. Yet, when we’re kids desiring extra guidance, musicians, athletes and actors might lead us down roads. With that in mind, I’ll let you know, while they may not be role models, what athletes I really respect.
First off, as of late, and I had mentioned him in yesterday’s post, Lionel Messi has won my admiration. Before he joined Inter Miami, I had only heard of him. Yet, watching his talent, and his unselfish play…I like the dude.
Next, and this is close to a home town favorite, Giannis Antetokounmpo is another guy I admire. The man’s passion, mixed with a humble persona, appeals to me. Plus, he is the Milwaukee Bucks’ star athlete. So, yeah…gotta like the guy.
Next up, as I stick with Milwaukee pro athletes, I love Robin Yount. The man was a consumate professional, and he gave one hundred percent effort when he played the game. He’s also a very respectful man.
Lastly, but certainly not least, the 1960’s Green Bay Packers were a team of heroes. Yet, the general on the field, who was a soft spoken, mild mannered dude, was Bart Starr. During his life, and after his playing days, he had admitted to not possessing the talents of today’s quarterbacks. Yet, and don’t think anyone would tell you he didn’t deserve them, the man won a league MVP, and, more importantly, he led his team to five NFL championships.
Yet, as I’ll write a second paragraph on the man, Bart’s on the field contributions were only a portion of his legacy. He also helped many teenaged boys become vital parts of the community. And that, to this day, has had a lasting impact.
As I finish writing this post, I’m reminded of other sports icons. Yet, my work shift is fast approaching. So, I’ll set the phone down, remember what these men have taught me and try to make a statement of my own.
Have an Excellent Day!
