In what ways does hard work make you feel fulfilled?

I’ll start of by saying this: in my family, hard work is a must. If I think beyond my kin, heck, Midwesterners, you know, those in this region, well, they just work…hard…plain and simple. So, in this short post, I’ll tell you why we put our nose to the grindstone…or, more precisely, I’ll tell you why I do my best.

I think mainly, because it’s been instilled in me, I feel hard work is expected. So, when I successfully finish a workday, and if I did the best I could, I feel I’ve satisfied those that paved my way.

I mean, think of this state’s agricultural past. During the throes of summer, sixteen hour workdays weren’t uncommon. Were my predecessors reaching for millions? Were they asking for a promotion? No, they were providing a comfortable living for their family.

Yes, I believe they dreamed of millions of dollars, of course they did. Yet, what is commendable, and my gratitude is undying, these families worked to make life easier…maybe not for themselves, but for the following generations.

Believe it or not, in this microwave society, we’re still striving to make things better. Working hard for ourselves, and for those that come next, is inherently human. It also helps everyone live better. When we work to our full potential, and everyone shoulders the burden, everyone’s quality of life improves.

Was I born a hard worker? On more than one occasion, my father accused me of being a waste of a great mind. Now that I’m older, yeah, that bothers me. I’d love to discover that I, Chris Karas, can ascertain admirable goals, and I don’t want to waste what God has given me.

So, when I finish a task, and I help my team succeed, it’s like saying, “See dad, you’re wrong…I was simply pacing myself!” All joking aside, yes, I feel I have something to prove, and I want to prove it every day.

So, when the day ends, I’m satisfied. Yet, If I succeed, I’m still not done…hell, I’ll never be done. Simply, when I finish the day, I take pride knowing, “I did THIS! And I’ll do it again.

Have an Excellent Day!!
